Summer 2024 was one of those summers that odd things kept popping up. Machining robot parts using the Lathe, led me to build two lightsabers at Disneyland, which led me to Simone Davalos and David Calkins Wedding Vow Renewal and Lightsaber Battle, which pushed my yearly trip to OSF back into late September.
That trip led me to learn about the OSF Gala and online auction. By the time I returned home, and looked at what was on the auction, MacBeth’s daggers were at the top of my price range. However, MacBeth’s throne was not gone for very much. I thought, where would I put it, how would I get it home, and, what would I do with it. So I did not bid on it at first.
I, however, started to think, which usually gets me into trouble. I thought, I can take it places and do stuff with it, and then make a website showing where it’s been and what it has done. So, I decided on an upper price and upped the bid on it a little bit, still quite a bit under my top price. The bidding went back and forth a little and I ran into a problem that the auction was going to end during one of my Sunday Robot Build times at Cedarcrest High School.
While helping my high school students build robots, I had a computer logged into the auction, and I would check it every 15 minutes. I won the throne and now I take it places and do things, like build this web site.
When not out visiting places, the throne sits in my living room between the 24 inch Lego Globe and FRC 949's 2003 robot.
I won the auction while helping students build the robot sitting on the throne.
